Rectification column
The plants to produce RS have been designed usually with stripping column (mash column or stripping column) in stainless steel as the material of construction the concentration column (Rectification column) is usually fabricated in copper as material of construction. Another smaller column in the scheme to concentrate the streams containing low boiling impurities is the 'heads concentration column', which is fabricated out of stainless steel. Usually, vapours to this column are fed from the upper part of the stripping column called the 'degasifying column'
Alcohol distillation column designed for raising of the concentrations of ethanol (spirit) up to 94.6% (approximately) as per IS 323 and gets rid from impurities: fusel alcohol, aldehyde, diethyl ether, etc. The distillation tower has closed heating (reboiler). The water with impurities is selected in the bottom of the column. Ethanol released from impurities selected in the liquid phase from 2 to 12 distillation trays.
Salient Features
- This column operates under elevated pressure.
- Rectified spirit, the first alcoholic product, is drawn from this column.
- The bottom product, spent lees, is used in the process of fermentation.
- Fusel oil and technical alcohol are also drawn from this column.
